This is a challenge which includes Japan, France and the United States, and for me it has been and exciting adventure. Thirty festivals from countries around the world were chosen, and one person from each of the three participating country was selected to produce a quilt representing a… particular festival. The resulting 90 quilts began their sojourn in Japan, will continue on to France, and complete the tour in 2010 in the United States.
I was chosen to create a quilt representing the festival of Las Fallas, held each year in Valencia, Spain, to honor St. Joseph. In this celebration, huge figures (some as high as five stories) are created from wood, cardboard and papier-mâchée, filled with fire crackers, and at the climax of the festivities, are set ablaze.

The challenge set the quilt dimensions at 50cm square, or approximately 19.7″ Click on the link below to see all of the quilts in the challenge. www.scutso.spaces.live.com/?lc=1033
